Truro Modern House

Square Footage: 4423 sq. ft.
Date Completed: 2010

This contemporary summer house with views of Cape Cod Bay was designed with an upside-down floor plan, meaning that the living spaces and master bedroom are on the second floor and the bedrooms and storage are on the ground floor. The owners originally came to us for a simple kitchen re-design; however by the end of the project we had done a complete renovation of the entire house that both complements and improves on the original design.

The focus of this design is twofold: to create a space that seamlessly blends inside and outside in a way that allows for seasonal entertaining while also maintaining the view of the water. The existing kitchen was moved and expanded, which provided space for us to move the main entry and stairway away from the west side of the house, where it obstructed the view, and towards the east. This opened up the living room and new dining room to take fuller advantage of the view. We were able to maintain the strong connection between the living room and the backyard, where we re-designed the extensive multi-level decking, gazebo, and patio furniture.
